Sheltered Women And Their Children

My name is Joylynn Jossel-Ross, and I am the founder, through the Holy Spirit, of the SWATC (Sheltered Women And Their Children) Ministry.  This is a non-profit ministry created to serve the Kingdom.   The SWATC Ministry’s mission is to provide essentials for sheltered women and their children who are victims of domestic violence, forced out of their homes due to physical, mental and/or sexual abuse.

As a survivor of domestic abuse and a minority who found herself in a battered women’s shelter, I know first hand what it’s like to be displaced from your home to a place where you don’t even have the basic things available to you like hair sheen, grease, activator, hair ballies and barrettes for little girls, or wave gel and caps for little boys.  Asian women and children, Hispanic, Islamic, and other minority women and children experience the same thing.  Some women and children need hair coverings due to their religion.  Looking and feeling good about ones’ self on the outside aids in high self-esteem and feeling good on the inside.  Some women simply need such items available so that they can look decent and feel confident enough to go out on job interviews or school to become self-supportive.  This ministry is bigger than just a can of hair sheen;  It’s about empowerment.
